Pat McGrath Labs Sublime Perfection Setting Powder: Treated with amino acids, this lightweight setting powder retails at $39 and includes five shades. However, I find the Hourglass powder to be thinner and more lightweight than Laura Mercier's. It has three shades, compared to Hourglass' one translucent shade. Laura Mercier Ultra-Blur Translucent Loose Setting Powder: Laura Mercier's Ultra-Blur Translucent Setting Powder retails at $42, a little less than Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder. To top things off, the packaging is unlike any I've seen before. It's highly blendable, making it easy to achieve the blurred finish most of us are looking for. However, it has several qualities worth considering: Since the powder is ultra-thin and lightweight, it's not prone to look cakey. It is no secret the Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder is pricey. The powder is super lightweight, so it's easy to blend away any imperfections. Because its texture is very soft and fine, you may notice blotching. Generally, I'm used to applying yellow-toned setting powders, but this translucent powder seamlessly blended with my skin's undertone.Īs most setting powders require, you will need to blend well if you use the Veil Translucent Setting Powder to bake. ![]() If you're concerned about flashback or a white cast, you won't have to worry about that with this powder. The look lasted all day, with minimal oil shining through over time. I was amazed at how it effortlessly blotted out my oily areas-without drying out my skin. And if you want to save your shiny glow but “blur” your skin, finishing powder will be your BFF.I love my textured skin, so I appreciated how this setting powder blurred my pores without compromising my skin's natural vibrance. ![]() But if you’re trying to keep your makeup matte and locked in place? Reach for setting powder. “One of the biggest mistakes I see is people using powder foundation to ‘set’ their base foundation,” says makeup artist Tayaba Jafri, “which can add a heavy layer to your skin and look cakey or dry.” Basically, powder foundation is foundation it’s not meant to be used as a topper. Powder foundation: Densest formula with coverage meant to even skin tone and replace liquid foundation (not meant to be used as a setting powder).Finishing powder: Lightest formula with no coverage that is dusted over your skin as the final step in your makeup routine to blend everything together and sometimes add a glow.Setting powder: Medium-weight formula without coverage for setting and prolonging makeup. No, setting powder and finishing powder are not the same thing, and yes, using the incorrect formula can seriously mess with the results you’re trying to get. I like how it looks and feels on my skin too.” It doesn’t have a scent, and it lasts me all day unless I need to touch up my T-zone area. I use it to set on most days, but if I want to bake, it’s also a nice powder to use. “It’s a light/sheer-feeling powder, but it gives you good coverage if you build it up. THE REVIEWS: “I was recommended this powder by a friend, and it didn’t disappoint,” writes one tester in a review. And when I feel like baking (aka when you cover your makeup with a heavy layer of powder, let it sit for a few minutes, then dust it away), I don’t feel bad using so much product since a refill costs less than $10. I just brush it lightly across my skin for a satin finish or press it in with a sponge to seriously mattify. And now that I’ve tested dozens, I’m shocked at how well it sets my makeup for the price. When I first reentered the powder game, I wasn’t ready to drop $$$ for a setting powder, which led me to this drugstore fave (like, there are so many positive reviews). ✔️ FYI: We updated this article in June 2023 to give you the most up-to-date info on setting powders, including new products the internet won't stop talking about, deleted outdated oldies, and checked in on the latest in setting powders, just for you. ![]() And with the help of Jafri and makeup artist Tobi Henney, we’ve handpicked every setting powder that gets our seal of approval, below. As makeup artist Tayaba Jafri puts it, they're "one of the oldest makeup tricks in the book."Īnd thanks to my own chaotic skin, I’ve personally tested 25+ setting powders in the last six months to find the best for my skin type and makeup ~vibes~. So how do my tinted moisturizers, cream blushes, and face glosses stay put all day long, you ask? A really good setting powder, which, FYI, contains ingredients that "lock" liquid and cream formulas to your face to help extend wear time. This can be attributed to the ~wonderful~ NYC humid summers and really freakin' cold winters. My skin is unpredictable-some days, I'm an oily greaseball, and other days, my skin is dull, meh, and has dry patches. ![]()

It subsequently evolved into a full commercial game, renamed Worms, available initially only for the Commodore Amiga computer. Team17 made an offer on-the-spot to develop and publish the game. He then took the game to the European Computer Trade Show, where Team17 had a stand. Davidson sent the game to several publishers with no success. The game at this stage was called Total Wormage (possibly in reference to Total Carnage) and it did not win the competition. The game was originally created by Andy Davidson as an entry for a Blitz BASIC programming competition run by the Amiga Format magazine, a cut-down version of the programming language having been cover-mounted previously. Whilst initially only available for the Amiga, it was later ported to many other systems. Worms was the first in the series of artillery games developed by Team17 and released in 1995. In 2002, Jobs made an agreement with the five major record labels to offer their content through iTunes. Steve Jobs saw the opportunity to open a digital marketplace for music due to the rising popularity of easily downloadable tracks. Apple now operates its own subscription-based streaming music service, Apple Music, alongside the iTunes Store. While initially a dominant player in digital media, by the mid-2010s, streaming media services were generating more revenue than the buy-to-own model used by the iTunes Store. If we don't grab you from the first frame of it, then you're not going to be along for the rest of the ride. When we get off that plane, it has to look like we're in that country. That was, production value-wise, a huge undertaking. We were out in Piru for days and days and days, with a train station and 23 missing Americans walking around in the hot, hot heat of that. While snow can fall quite regularly in the Nepal mountains, Los Angeles has gone around 50+ years without measurable snowfall, so the fact they were able to even create lasting snow cover is an achievement by itself! Then you realize that not only do you have to create the fluffy stuff on the ground, you also have to make it look like it's been hanging on trees, off of flowers, and anywhere else where snow would naturally fall. It does indeed sound nuts to recreate a snowy Nepal scene in Los Angeles. Watching that episode, I felt like, 'Wow, we had to do a whole heckuva lot.' We were outside a lot, it had to look like we were freezing. We were done with our season in early December, so it wasn't as cold as January and February had been in Los Angeles, but we were still in a high enough altitude that the snow that we made stuck around. We had to go out into the woods - Nothing You Could Fake in Griffith Park woods - and make snow. My answer might be different from our production designer's, but Nepal, production-wise, just seemed nuts. ![]() |
